Outline
Prenatal genetic diagnosis (PND) develops rapidly in recent years due to remarkable advances in molecular technologies, such as array CGH, whole-exome sequencing, noninvasive prenatal testing by cell-free fetal DNA, etc. PND aims to obtain information of fetuses or embryos to identify genetic defects associated with various disorders in the early stage, which is crucial for decision making, monitoring, and timely treatment of complications before and after birth.
In
this online seminar, we invite experts from Changhua Christian Hospital of
Taiwan, Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, and Faculty of Medicine
Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University of Thailand to introduce the medical
practices, counseling and research developments
of PND as well as preimplantation genetic diagnosis and screening (PGD/PGS);
the later applies genetic diagnosis in embryos that enables "genetically
normal" embryos to be transferred and avoids the risk of passing on diseases to
future generations.
